The Genoa-Kingston Cogs are taking a road trip to square off against the DeKalb Barbs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Genoa-Kingston's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.
Genoa-Kingston's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Lutheran with a sharp 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cogs, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Elizabeth Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Kailey Haberkamp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Genoa-Kingston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 10-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but DeKalb ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Metea Valley by a score of 14-11. The Barbs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Nazeria Dean was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Cassidy Cavazos was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Genoa-Kingston's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-12. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for DeKalb, their record is now 11-8.
Genoa-Kingston couldn't quite get it done against DeKalb in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 as they fell 7-3. Can the Cogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
