4A Region I District 6 recap October 1, 2013
Dunbar extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 6 this week by beating Poly, 67-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Wildcats.
Boswell moved up to 437 from 470 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
Saginaw's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John Polston threw for 36 and 3 touchdowns and Jared Rivas had 26 yards receiving. On the ground Maleek Tarver contributed 101 yards. Austin Wright helped Saginaw's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 10 yards.
Polston put up the best numbers through the air as the Rough Riders topped Eastern Hills.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Saginaw's Polston and Wright have proven to be a lethal combination. Polston has thrown for 468 yards this season, while Wright, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 15 catches for 273 yards. Birdville's Xavier Turner leads the league in rushing yards with 746.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 6 this week will be when Dunbar takes on the Pioneers. Todd Lawson's team is in first place, while Boswell is in fourth place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on John Abendschan's team. Dunbar has allowed 83 points this season, while the Pioneers have given up 74. The Wildcats allowed 7 points last week as they beat the Parrots.
Carter-Riverside fell to the Hawks 72-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
