Softball Recap: Hoxie Wins Going Away Against Newport

Hoxie made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Newport, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Hoxie Mustangs' way against the Newport Greyhounds on Thursday as the Hoxie Mustangs made off with a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hoxie is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Newport is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoxie will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against East Poinsett County at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st. Newport will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Harrisburg at 4:30 p.m. on April 3rd.
