The Martinsville Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 47-28 fall against Magna Vista. While losing is never fun, Martinsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Magna Vista is ranked 55th).
Martinsville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Yoshi Moyer, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks, and Aniya Torrence who scored three points along with nine rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Torrence pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Martinsville has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Magna Vista, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.
Martinsville will head out on the road to challenge George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Martinsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 38 on Tuesday. As for Magna Vista, they will head out on the road to challenge Halifax County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Magna Vista is coming into the contest with three straight victories on the road, so Halifax County is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
