The Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles lost to the Newhalen Malamutes back in March of 2023, but the Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles didn't allow the Newhalen Malamutes the same satisfaction on Friday. Sand Point took down Newhalen 47-28. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sand Point.
Sand Point's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rowdy Tripp, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. Tyler Gundersen was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Sand Point's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Newhalen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sand Point and King Cove will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Newhalen will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lumen Christi at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
