The Lyons Lions will take on the Flatirons Academy Bison at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lyons duked it out with The Academy on Monday. The Lions fell 9-4 to the Wildcats.
Zack LaCrosse was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bryce Rose made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Calvin Russell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Flatirons Academy strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Dawson School with a sharp 11-5 victory. Considering the Bison have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Mateo Pope, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Everson Nelson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Flatirons Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Flatirons Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lyons has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lyons suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Flatirons Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
