This week, Stone (3-3) and Gautier (2-5) square off against each other on Friday at 7:00 PM. Both teams have had struggles on the defensive side of the ball, with Stone giving up an average of 30 points per game and Gautier allowing an average of 34.
Stone put forth a good scoring effort two games ago and even improved upon it last game, but that didn't prove quite enough. Victory was within reach last week, but it ultimately lost 42 - 35 to Picayune. All the same, giving senior Enrique Whaley more carries than the previous game paid off since he ran for 149 yards and punched in two touchdowns. Whaley has also now scored at least one touchdown in the past three consecutive games.
As for Gautier, it has taken seven games to get there, but it has finally bested an opponent on the road. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, it beat West Harrison 26 - 21 last week. Gautier especially relied on junior Kameron Kincaid, who ran for 71 yards and also punched in one touchdown, and junior Micah Kelly, who earned one touchdown and 107 yards rushing the ball.
The last time they met, Stone was the 28 - 7 victor. It was able to move the ball a lot more (418 yards compared to 185 yards), a gap Gautier will be looking to close this time around. Will Stone come out on top again? We'll soon find out.
