Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Lawrence County Cougars walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 28-25 win over McComb on Friday. The win was familiar territory for Lawrence County who now have three in a row.
Ahmad Hardy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per carry. Hardy is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Lawrence County also got a significant boost from Kannon Cato, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 107 yards.
McComb's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jamarcus Pittman, who threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Badon, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Lawrence County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for McComb, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-1.
Lawrence County will square off against Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Poplarville is ranked 47th, while Lawrence County is ranked 60th). McComb does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
