The Bald Eagle Area Eagles will head out to face off against the Central Cambria Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Bald Eagle Area's win against Bellwood-Antis wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 2-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 29, 2024.
Wyatt Kowalczyk tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Bald Eagle Area's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Irion, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Central Cambria made sure to put some runs up on the board against Greater Johnstown on Saturday. The Red Devils blew past the Trojans 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Grady Snyder was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Snyder was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Derek McConnell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Brouse, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Central Cambria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Bald Eagle Area and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Central Cambria, their record now sits at 7-2.
Bald Eagle Area took their victory against Central Cambria in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
