The Foothill Mustangs won the last time they faced the Leroy Greene Academy Lions, and things went their way on Thursday too. Foothill sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 victory over Leroy Greene Academy. Given Foothill's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while Leroy Greene Academy is ranked 1016th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Arley Lopez, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Cliff Currie, who scored 8 points.
Cobee Wesley and Andres Martinez certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Wesley scored 15 points, while Martinez scored 15 points. The contest was Wesley's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Jordan Heard was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Foothill and bumps their season record up to 3-2. As for Leroy Greene Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Foothill will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. Lincoln and Foothill are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Leroy Greene Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Kennedy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
