Mid-East recap Oct. 23, 2012
Dalton Catron and Tucker Horak provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Council Grove. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in Mid-East this season.
Silver Lake extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Atchison County, 47-7. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Horak was the best wideout in the league this week as Rossville beat the Braves. Horak tallied one reception for 80 yards. Kyle Hammer helped Rossville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 80 yards.
Nick Reesor was the most productive running back in Mid-East this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 138 yards as the Bulldogs defeated Council Grove. Horak also contributed to the rushing game with 44 yards on the ground.
Aaron Mayer made the biggest impact on defense this week as Wabaunsee fell to Onaga. The 5-foot-9 junior recorded one fumble.
Dailin Kruger put up the best numbers through the air as Silver Lake topped the Tigers. He finished with 12 completions for 342 yards and five touchdowns. Kruger's favorite target this week was Jeff Torkelson, who caught three passes for 77 yards.
5-foot-8 quarterback Catron of Rossville is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1107. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, the Chargers' Ethan Miller has rushed for 1290 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Torkelson. The Silver Lake star has 25 catches for 372 yards.
Rock Creek's Tyler Dillon needs only 78 yards against Riley County next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Dillon has rushed for 922 yards on 112 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Steve Buhler's team takes on St. Marys. The Bulldogs are currently in second, while the Bears are in fourth.
Rossville took down Jim Collins' team 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Catron threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 22 yards in the win.
