Liberty is 0-10 against Independence since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Liberty Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Independence Patriots at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Liberty has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Independence will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Saturday, Liberty had to suffer through a rough 68-26 loss at the hands of Lincoln County.
Even though Independence has not done well against Shady Spring recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Independence took down Shady Spring 46-32. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 8 on the offensive boards, as Independence did.
Independence found their leader in underclassman Harmony Mills, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Mills has scored at least a third of Independence's points. Lacey Goodson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Independence, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Liberty was dealt a bruising 51-21 loss at the hands of Independence in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Liberty was down 23-3.
