Lloyd Memorial is 0-6 against Bishop Brossart since April of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Juggernauts will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Lloyd Memorial's win against Ludlow wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Juggernauts won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Juggernauts in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Layla Laudick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Mady Godsey was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Railynn Brown also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Brossart entered their tilt with Paul Laurence Dunbar on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Bulldogs. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.
Rachel Shewmaker was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ella Walerius, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Bishop Brossart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Bishop Brossart's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lloyd Memorial, their record is now 3-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lloyd Memorial has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Bishop Brossart struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lloyd Memorial might still be hurting after the 19-1 loss they got from Bishop Brossart in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Juggernauts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
