Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Southside Mavericks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 30-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. Southside lost against Fayetteville in their previous head to head back in October, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 45-31 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Southside lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Isaac Gregory. Despite the final result, he picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Carter Zimmerman, who threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fayetteville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Setzer, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown. Setzer has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. Drake Lindsey also helped out by tossing the rock for 310 yards.
Southside's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Fayetteville, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Southside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Fayetteville will face off against Conway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Conway's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
