Softball Recap: UMS-Wright Prep Wins Going Away Against Rain

UMS-Wright Prep's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Rain Red Raiders 30-1. That looming 30-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Parker Abston made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kenleigh Hess was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Emma Shepler was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

UMS-Wright Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matches.

UMS-Wright Prep now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Rain, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, UMS-Wright Prep will welcome Elberta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. UMS-Wright Prep is facing Elberta at the right time seeing as Elberta is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Rain, they will be playing at home against Blount at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rain has given up an average of 17.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
