Two dominant guards in Rian Forestier and Ava Mitchell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brandeis Broncos will head out on the road to take on the Johnson Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Brandeis posted their biggest win since December 19, 2023 on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Madison 59-28 at home. Given Brandeis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Madison is ranked 587th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abigail Burdette and Forestier were among the main playmakers for Brandeis as the former scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six assists and the latter scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Forestier hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 29 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Pierson, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Johnson over SA Roosevelt in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Johnson blew SA Roosevelt out of the water with a 62-29 final score. Johnson pushed the score to 51-21 by the end of the third, a deficit SA Roosevelt had little chance of recovering from.
Brandeis is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-9 record this season. As for Johnson, they now have a winning record of 16-15.
Brandeis didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Johnson when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-47 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brandeis since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
