Wells has gone a perfect 9-0 against Pyramid Lake recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Leopards will be playing at home against the Lakers at 10:00 a.m. Wells is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 12 games.
On Tuesday, Wells made easy work of Carlin and carried off a 20-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Gage Uhlig, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Tristen Zimmerman was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Wells always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in four consecutive contests.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Pyramid Lake and Virginia City have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Lakers blew past the Muckers 15-3. That's two games straight that the Lakers have won by exactly 12 runs.
John Kelly and William Darrough made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kelly pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Darrough tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Pyramid Lake is undefeated when Kelly allows one or fewer hits, but 4-7 otherwise. At the plate, Kelly went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Darrough got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Kelly has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, Floyd Shaw was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nataani Bitsilly, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Wells pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Pyramid Lake, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wells has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pyramid Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Wells' way against Pyramid Lake when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Wells made off with a 15-4 victory. Do the Leopards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
