Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short

Heritage Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 69-63 heartbreaker at the hands of Kankakee Trinity Academy. The Defenders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kankakee Trinity Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Heritage Christian still got an impressive performance from Andrew Regnerus, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Regnerus a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Engelsma, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Heritage Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kankakee Trinity Academy only racked up six assists.

Akira Hori continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kankakee Trinity Academy, going 10 of 15 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Hori's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vinny Hendrix, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Heritage Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Kankakee Trinity Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Heritage Christian will be taking part in a tournament against Oakhill Christian at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Heritage Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Kankakee Trinity Academy, they and HomeSchool Resource Center will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Kankakee Trinity Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
