Langham Creek has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Cypress Lakes Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Langham Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Last Friday, Langham Creek beat the Mustangs 54-46. Given Langham Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Mustangs are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Langham Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Heather Baymon, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Baymon has scored at least a third of Langham Creek's points. Jade Prevost was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Cypress Lakes waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They secured a 63-59 W over Bridgeland. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Langham Creek's win bumped their record up to 28-4. As for Cypress Lakes, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season.
Langham Creek took their victory against the Spartans when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 78-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Langham Creek since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
