Kaufman has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Wills Point Tigers at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Kaufman beat Community 50-40. Given Kaufman's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Community is ranked 1075th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaufman found their leader in underclassman Kaylee Wrenn, who scored 19 points along with six steals. Wrenn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ka'liyah Arps, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Wills Point had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 40-35 win over Farmersville on Friday. The win was just what Wills Point needed coming off of a 42-22 defeat in their prior game.
Kaufman is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. As for Wills Point, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-22.
Kaufman was able to grind out a solid win over Wills Point in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 39-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kaufman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
