Newfane has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Akron Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Newfane posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 72-42 victory over Royalton-Hartland on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-19.
Ben Dickinson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Capen Mac, who scored ten points along with seven assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Akron made easy work of Cleveland Hill on Friday and carried off a 50-28 victory. Given Akron's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Cleveland Hill is ranked 630th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newfane's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Akron, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Newfane strolled past Akron when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 62-44. Does Newfane have another victory up their sleeve, or will Akron turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
