The Stayton Eagles's 17-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pleasant Hill on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Stayton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Pleasant Hill is ranked 18th).
When it comes to explaining why Stayton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaden Holm. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Holm scored a full 27.1% of Stayton's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ean Dillingham, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Stayton were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Stayton bumped their record down to 1-3 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pleasant Hill, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Stayton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Santiam Christian on December 15th. Santiam Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Pleasant Hill won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Marist on December 15th.
