The Apollo Hawks entered their tilt with the Maricopa Rams with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Apollo took down Maricopa 66-51 on Thursday. Given Apollo's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Maricopa is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Apollo was led to victory by Elijah White and Christian Acevedo. White scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Acevedo scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was DeQuean Bryant, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Apollo's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Maricopa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Apollo won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Saguaro at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Saguaro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Apollo likes a good challenge. Maricopa and Horizon will face off at 10:00 a.m. on December 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Horizon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
