Banquete is 1-7 against Odem since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Banquete Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Odem Owls at 7:30 p.m. Banquete is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Banquete, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 37-21 loss to George West.
Banquete's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Josh Jimenez, who gained 168 total yards and a touchdown, and Aiden Flores who rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown. Jimenez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.
Meanwhile, Odem had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They had just enough and edged Hebbronville out 29-27.
Josh Chavira was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 23 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 100 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Odem's win bumped their season record to 5-2 while Banquete's loss dropped theirs to 1-6.
Banquete came out on top in a nail-biter against Odem in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, sneaking past 30-28. Does Banquete have another victory up their sleeve, or will Odem turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
