The Opp Bobcats suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Pike County by a score of 34-31. If Opp hoped to take revenge for the 39-31 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Despite the loss, Opp had strong showings from Cuba Wiggins, who scored six points along with 19 rebounds and three blocks, and Dionna Stoudemire, who scored four points along with nine rebounds. Wiggins is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last six games she's played.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Opp bumped their record down to 1-16 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.9 points per game. As for Pike County, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Opp will take on New Brockton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Brockton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Tuesday. As for Pike County, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Daleville at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Daleville has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16.
