The West Covina Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Wilson Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
West Covina gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Covina 7-5.
Marciano Ramirez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Austin Nguyen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Covina kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wilson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Rowland 6-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Christian Urbina, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Eduardo Velasco, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
West Covina is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-8.
Everything went West Covina's way against Wilson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as West Covina made off with a 15-0 win. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
