Baseball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Victorious

Mater Dei Catholic won the last time they faced Sweetwater and things went their way on Monday too. The Crusaders never let the Red Devils get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Not much got past Xavier Castro, who gave up just three hits to keep Sweetwater off the board. Castro also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mater Dei Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Mater Dei Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joey Castillo, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Mater Dei Catholic's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Sweetwater, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Mater Dei Catholic will take on Monte Vista in a tournament on Tuesday. The Crusaders are facing the Monarchs at the right time seeing as the Monarchs are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Sweetwater, they will venture away from home to challenge Olympian at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Devils 3.8, the Eagles 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
