Basketball Recap: Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Takes a Loss

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory lost against Guerin Catholic back in March of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves fell 52-39 to the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 15th).

When it comes to explaining why Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory lost, don't look at Nicholas Sobek. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and six boards. Those six rebounds gave Sobek a new career-high. Chace Ford was another key player, putting up nine points.

Guerin Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Cardinal, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. The match was Cardinal's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Andrew Reithman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Guerin Catholic, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory has already played their next contest (against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Guerin Catholic will be playing at home against Indianapolis Scecina Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
