The Portland Adventist Academy Cougars had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They snuck past Scio with a 63-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Portland Adventist Academy was led to victory by Caleb Custer and Dane Petersen. Custer scored 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Petersen scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Petersen has scored at least 25% of Portland Adventist Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Francis Saliba, who scored four points along with 13 rebounds.
Portland Adventist Academy pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Scio, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portland Adventist Academy will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Faith Bible Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Scio will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
