The Newnan Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight loss. They were beaten by Langston Hughes 60-24. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Newnan has scored all season.
Langston Hughes was led to victory by McKayla Taylor and Jasmine Baxter. Taylor dropped a double-double on 12 points and 20 rebounds, while Baxter dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baxter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Greene, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Newnan's loss was their eighth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-12. As for Langston Hughes, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.
Newnan and Douglas County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Douglas County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newnan in Georgia (Douglas County is ranked 156th, while Newnan is ranked 333rd). Langston Hughes won't have much time to rest: their next game is against East Paulding at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. East Paulding is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
