Atkins has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Parkland Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Atkins pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 88-62 loss at the hands of Northern Guilford. While losing is never fun, Atkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while Northern Guilford is ranked 42nd).
Laithan Atkins put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. Princeton Scott was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Parkland, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 70-51 loss to West Forsyth on Friday.
Atkins bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Parkland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Atkins and Parkland were neck-and-neck when the teams last played on Monday, but Atkins came up empty-handed after a 42-41 defeat. Can Atkins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
