Whitko is 0-3 against Northwestern since April of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will welcome the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Whitko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Northwestern will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Whitko extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand Triton a 17-0 shutout. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Addie Garr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hannah Long was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sophie Keener was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Whitko was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Triton only posted a batting average of .062.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Northwestern took on Western on Tuesday. The Tigers came up short against the Panthers, falling 12-2. The Tigers have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Like Whitko, Northwestern also got a great game from a two-way player: Bailey Marcus. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave Marcus a new career-low. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Marcus wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Stevie-Rae Hedges, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Whitko's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitko hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Northwestern struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitko came up short against Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, falling 12-9. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
