Assumption hasn't had much luck against Sacred Heart recently, but that could start to change on Sunday. The Assumption Rockets will host the Sacred Heart Valkyries at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sacred Heart will be up against a hot Assumption squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Assumption blew past Danville Christian Academy, posting a 78-50 win. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Warriors are ranked 63rd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Ashlinn James, who went 11 for 14 on her way to 25 points and seven steals. James is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Hall, who went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Assumption was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Sacred Heart on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Blazer out of the water with an 82-48 final score. The victory was familiar territory for the Valkyries who have now won five matchups in a row.
Assumption better keep an eye on ZaKiyah Johnson. She was instrumental in Sacred Heart's win, going 10 for 13 on her way to 27 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Bri Wilkins was another key player, putting up nine points and seven steals.
Sacred Heart's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.8 points. As for Assumption, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Assumption has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 29.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Sacred Heart struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Assumption might still be hurting after the 70-50 loss they got from Sacred Heart in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Assumption have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
