The Emery Spartans will challenge the North Sanpete Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Emery is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Emery will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Carbon, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Spartans put the hurt on the Dinos with a sharp 9-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elli Stoker, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Katelyn Nielson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, North Sanpete lost 10-2 to Springville on Wednesday.
North Sanpete saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mylee Cook, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Emery's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Sanpete, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10.
Emery's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for North Sanpete, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Emery continue to outrun the ball?
Emery came up short against North Sanpete in their previous matchup back in March, falling 6-2. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
