Softball Recap: St. Helens Has No Trouble Against Tillamook

St. Helens won the last time they faced Tillamook and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lions were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Cheesemakers. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Eme Curaming made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, St. Helens got a massive performance out of Michaela Dueck, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those five RBI gave Dueck a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Lahey, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

St. Helens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

St. Helens' record is now 10-1. As for Tillamook, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

When St. Helens and Tillamook next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Lions will try to stop Scappoose's eight-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (St. Helens has won 17 straight at home dating back to last season, while the Indians won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Tillamook will face off against Astoria and their three-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
