Calhoun's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gunner Martinez led the charge by rushing for 104 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing yards Martinez has posted since back in September of 2024. Ashton Sternadel was another key signal caller, throwing for 190 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Calhoun didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Dane Spencer. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Calhoun, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Izaiah Cabrales, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Davenport on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Eastside Early College out of the water with a 62-0 final score. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Calhoun better keep an eye on Barrett Fallon. He was instrumental in Davenport's win, rushing for 80 yards and two scores, while also catching one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Tristan Torrez, who threw for 122 yards and three TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Davenport was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 212 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
Calhoun's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Davenport, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
Calhoun strolled past Davenport when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 42-28. Do the Sandcrabs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
