The Omaha Northwest Huskies lost against the Grand Island Islanders back in January of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Omaha Northwest took a 58-44 bruising from Grand Island. Omaha Northwest has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Omaha Northwest still got an impressive performance from Chiok John, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Dontae McDowell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Grand Island had a senior duo take command as Evan McDonald scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists and Mukadi Mukoma scored 19 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Broxton Barrientos, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Grand Island, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest will challenge Gretna at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Gretna's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Grand Island, Grand Island and Lincoln East will face off at 6:45 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Lincoln East is ranked 135th, while Grand Island is ranked 133rd).
