After flying high against the Cherokee Indians on Tuesday, the Johnson City Eagles came back down to earth. Johnson City was the victim of a rough 59-39 defeat at the hands of Chaparral on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Johnson City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 888th, while Chaparral is ranked 371st).
Despite the loss, Johnson City still got an impressive performance from Kp Coble, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 23 rebounds. Coble hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Corpus, who scored 8 points.
Johnson City now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Chaparral, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Johnson City will take on Thrall at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Thrall knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Johnson City likes a good challenge. Chaparral will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Manor New Tech at 3:00 p.m. on December 7th. Manor New Tech is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 68.8 points per game.
