The Lowpoint-Washburn Wildcats put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by DePue on the road to the tune of 60-31. Given Lowpoint-Washburn's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while DePue is ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lowpoint-Washburn got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kody Knecht out in front who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. The contest was Knecht's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Clayton Grebner, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
DePue's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Pancho Moreno, who scored 17 points. Moreno scored a full 54.8% of DePue's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Luis Lopez was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Lowpoint-Washburn's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for DePue, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Lowpoint-Washburn will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Marquette at 5:30 p.m. on December 1st. As for DePue, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against LaMoille at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully LaMoille focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
