Hammonton dropped their record down to 8-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cherokee Chiefs, falling 11-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Blue Devils, who until this match were averaging 3.3 runs allowed.
Gracie Ravenkamp was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Alexis Vellucci and Leah Alexander stepped up to the plate in a big way. Vellucci went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Alexander went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That triple was Vellucci's first of the season.
As for Cherokee, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On Cherokee's side, Allison Cunane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Cherokee got a massive performance out of Chloe Fydk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Edwards, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammonton will face off against Holy Spirit at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Spartans have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. As for Cherokee, they will head out to take on Paul VI at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
