Gregori is a perfect 10-0 against Modesto since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Jaguars will head out to face off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Gregori is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Merced hit Gregori with a four-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars came up short against the Bears, falling 12-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.
NeVaeh Scheper was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Modesto was able to grind out a solid win over Pitman on Thursday, taking the game 9-6.
Alyssa Ramirez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Ramirez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Gilbert was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sonia Padilla, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Modesto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Gregori's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Modesto, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-17.
Modesto's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gregori has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Modesto, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Gregori's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gregori took their win against Modesto in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 18-9 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
