Softball Game Preview: Warrenton Warriors vs. Rainier Columbians

Warrenton and Rainier are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Warriors will square off against the Columbians at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Warrenton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Warrenton is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Banks just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Braves.

Warrenton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Rainier came out on top against Toutle Lake on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 20-run fourth inning. The Columbians blew past the Ducks 22-7. The Columbians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.

Destiny McKay was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Twichell, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Rainier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Rainier and bumps their season record up to 8-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Warrenton, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1.

Warrenton came out on top in a nail-biter against Rainier in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
