Football Recap: Mustang Skates Past Edmond North with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Mustang on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Edmond North Huskies out of the water with a 57-28 final score. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Huskies are ranked 41st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Mustang to victory were Jaden O'Neal and Judson Gilliland. O'Neal threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.3 yards per attempt, while Gilliland rushed for 101 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. O'Neal has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Ryder Murphy was another key player, picking up 136 receiving yards and one TD.

Mustang's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kaden Bachus, Elijah Wilson, and Tucker Harris, who each picked up one sack apiece. Mustang got some further help from Bachus: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles.

Mustang has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points over those games. As for Edmond North, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Mustang wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 38-22 defeat against Bixby on the 23rd. As for Edmond North, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 51-3 win against Enid on the 24th.
