The Lockland Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Huntington, falling 52-17. While losing is never fun, Lockland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 685th, while Huntington is ranked 268th).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaylah Smith, who scored 6 points along with 15 rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alayah Jefferson, who scored 2 points along with 4 steals.
Lockland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Huntington, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Lockland will head out on the road to face off against Gamble Montessori at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Huntington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Adena at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Adena's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
