Auburn is 8-2 against Opelika since November of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Auburn Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Opelika Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Auburn put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Smiths Station 79-36 at home. Given Auburn's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Smiths Station is ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Auburn found their leader in underclassman Antwane Daniels, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Daniels has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Pearson, who scored eight points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Opelika's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Central at home by a decisive 74-56 margin.
Auburn has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Opelika, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.
Auburn didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Opelika when the teams last played last Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 65-61 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Auburn since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
