6A Southwest recap Sept. 26, 2012
Thurston scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Roseburg, 26-12. At the time, the Indians was ranked 15th in the state, while the Colts was 54th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Thurston, who took down 15th ranked Roseburg, 26-12. Corey Weick threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 17 yards in the win.
Jack Miller was the best wideout in 6A Southwest this week as Justin Starck's team defeated the Indians. Miller tallied one reception for 99 yards. Colton Fish helped Thurston's passing attack out by catching four balls for 43 yards.
Taylor Alie threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns. He went 10-12 with two interceptions.
Roy Jackson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 121 yards as the Colts topped Roseburg. Teammate Aaron Downes added to the ground attack by rushing for 95 yards.
Sheldon's Alie and Ivan Faulhaber have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Alie has thrown for 817 yards this season, while Faulhaber, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 21 catches for 222 yards. Thurston's Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 276.
The marquee game in 6A Southwest this week will be the clash between the Irish and South Medford. Sheldon enters the contest ranked second in the state, while the Panthers ranks 12th.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lane Johnson's team takes on South Medford. The Irish have allowed 68 points this season, while Bill Singler's team has given up 29. Sheldon allowed 0 points last week as it bested North Medford.
Weick and Miller provided fans with a highlight when they connected against the Indians. The connection went for 99 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
