The Andress Eagles will face off against the Memorial Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Andress claimed a resounding 41-7 win over Canutillo. Andress pushed the score to 34-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Canutillo had little chance of recovering from.
It was another big night for Jamari Milton, who threw for 243 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Julian Hernandez was in the mix too, providing Andress with two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Andress was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 228 rushing yards in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Memorial blew past Legacy, posting a 63-20 victory. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Leopards are ranked 808th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andress better keep an eye on Eric Powell. He was instrumental in Memorial's win, rushing for 157 yards and four touchdowns. They are undefeated when Powell posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Gage Wuthrich was another major influence, as he rushed for 90 yards and ran in a TD.
Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.8 points over those games. As for Andress, their record now sits at 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Andress has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 159.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
