Justin-Siena extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 7-10. They came up short against the Petaluma Trojans, falling 15-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.
Lilah Fern and Ale Guerrero did some serious damage despite the final result: Fern went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Guerrero went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Caiden Grimmer, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
As for Petaluma, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7-1 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Petaluma's side, Gianna Cantieri spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Cantieri has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Petaluma let Lauren Wilson and Maya Donohue run wild. Wilson fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4, while Donohue fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave Donohue a new career-high. Charlette Lentz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Justin-Siena will face off against American Canyon at 4:30 a.m. on Monday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Braves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Petaluma, they will take on Vintage at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crushers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
