Paloma Valley hasn't had much luck against Poly recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Bears at 3:45 p.m. Paloma Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Paloma Valley is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valley View.
Kaydence Koepsell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Paloma Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Alarcon, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Poly, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Hemet on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Poly also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Marley Audoma gave up just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Audoma has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katelyn Cortez was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Honesty Romero, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Poly hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive contests.
Poly is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Paloma Valley, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Paloma Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Poly struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Paloma Valley suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Poly when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
