Breese Central has gone 7-1 against East Alton-Wood River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Oilers at 7:00 p.m. Breese Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 41.2 points per game this season.
Breese Central took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over Freeburg. The Cougars have beaten the Midgets the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Midgets has come to flipping the script.
Cole Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 116 yards and four scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also picking up 47 receiving yards. He didn't just play on offense: he also made one tackle and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Cooper Martin was in the mix too, providing Breese Central with one TD.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Breese Central proved: they limited Freeburg to a paltry 1.1 yards per carry. While five picked up at least one total tackle, Davis stood above the rest. He rushed for 116 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 47 receiving yards. Breese Central didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.5.
Breese Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Davis and Aidan Huegen. Breese Central received some extra help from Martin, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, East Alton-Wood River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 56-0 loss at the hands of Salem.
Breese Central's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for East Alton-Wood River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Everything came up roses for Breese Central against East Alton-Wood River in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 48-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
